CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM MAKES GOOD "CENTS"!

Dear

Election campaign costs are escalating out of control! The quotes below come from North Carolina newspapers:

"And the preoccupation with money doesn't end after a successful campaign. The fund-raising race continues, in preparation for the next go-around. No one knows better than public officials themselves how the interminable money quest interferes with their ability to do the job for which they were elected. (Editorial, [Raleigh] News and Observer, February 11, 2000)
"The U.S. Supreme Court says that we can't just shut off the supply of special-interest cash or put a mandatory lid on how much candidates can raise and spend. But we can create an alternative supply of "clean money" to reward the candidates who spend their time soliciting support from ordinary citizens instead of from wealthy contributors. If enough contributors agree, the candidate can get a competitive amount of campaign money from a publicly funded clean-election campaign." (Senator Robert B. Morgan, Winston-Salem Journal, June 2, 1999)

"Now that the state courts have limited the effectiveness of laws designed to clean up elections, the N.C. General Assembly should give full consideration to the proposed Clean Election Act. North Carolina should join the growing number of states that have gotten the worst abuses of big money out of their elections." (Editorial, Charlotte Observer, April 17, 2000)

Please collect the pennies you receive and give them to the N.C. Candidates Financing Fund. Support Campaign Finance Reform. It just makes "cents"!
