Remarks of LWVNC President Jo Nicholas at Moral Monday Event
LWVNC President Addressed Moral Monday Participants
I am Jo Nicholas, President of the League of Women Voters of North Carolina. I am here today because our voting rights are being challenged. We, the League, have been working for voting rights not only for women, but for everyone for over 93 years! Why should we be here today when voting is our constitutional right? Why should our legislators be challenging how, when and who we are to vote.
I have a friend that has no photo identification card, why should they need one to vote?
I have a friend that likes to go with her or his church group on Sundays to vote--why can he or she not do that now?
I have a friend that like to go and vote during the early voting times--why must he or she stop that procedure now?
I have a friend who assists people in same day registration at their precincts in early voting time period.--why can't that continue?
These actions above are being challenged in our legislature.
