Information » "Voting: The Root of Democracy"
The Citizen Education Foundation, Inc. of the League of Women Voters of North Carolina's State Chapter launched a statewide civic education project beginning October 2000. Educating youth at an early age helps them become participatory citizens as adults in the voting process.
The 18-minute documentary-style video acquaints students with voting and other roots of US democracy: the Constitution, American Revolution, immigrants, our founders, and facts regarding segments of our society unable to vote during various periods of our nation's history.
- 600 copies of the video have been placed in the NC Public School Media Centers for middle schools.
- Advocates for Civic EducationVolunteers are available in 22 counties throughout North Carolina to aid classroom teachers, upon request.
- Mock Presidential Election and other proven lessons are available through Columbia Education Center Social Studies.
See the Organization For Community Networks Resource Center's Academy Curricular Exchange for proven lessons regarding civic education.
